Sunnyside Farm also offers a Summer Horse Camp!

Kids LOVE coming to Sunnyside Farm!  They enjoy the horses AND dogs alike (Especially, me, the Howdy dog)!  By working with the animals at Sunnyside, the students learn life skills that initiate change, and good behavior. All aspects of horses and horsemanship are used in our program: bareback riding; Western riding; English riding; driving; grooming; safety; care and health; anatomy; and young horse training.  Horsemanship skills are integrated with team projects, experiments, creative thinking and horse related art.  Combined, these elements provide a unique program with endless possibilities.

Us Dogs, well, we sit on the edge of the round pen, absorbing what Wendy teaches. Her riding lessons focus on more than just actual riding and driving. The students develop many skills outside of theirmastery of horsemanship. While they embrace horsemanship and riding, Sunnyside’s focus is a bit more inclusive. This includes helping students gain life skills, such as: positive communication, trust, honesty, values, congruent behavior, and anger management. In addition, the horses help students with subjects of education and learning, which include:  reading, writing, geometry, mathematics, and drawing. At Sunnyside, our students’ horsemanship skills grow as a natural result of development in these other areas.

Obviously, we believe that there is something very special about the horse. Small children who have never seen horses may spend hours drawing horses, pretending to be horses, and “playing horse”. Horses captivate and hold a special power that we never out-grow.
